JOHANNESBURG – Rand Water says if power cuts continue to be a daily occurrence, water restrictions will be imposed.
The water supply company says consumers should start saving water to avoid complete outages.
The company also advised residents to regularly check their load-shedding schedule for their areas on the City Power and Eskom websites as load-shedding affects the water supply.
There might not be water in some areas and water could be running low in others.
Joburg Water urged residents to prepare for instances where there might not be water by ensuring that they have enough water stored for the duration of the load-shedding.
“Joburg Water, unfortunately, does not have enough water tankers to assist as a form of alternative supply because of the size of areas that get affected by load-shedding,” the water utility said in a statement.
In South Africa, one company is tapping into an alternative source for drinking water to solve the growing challenge of water shortage and contamination by harvesting water from the moisture in the air.
